Degree Programs
MBA Degree Program
Our MBA degree provides a well-rounded business education. The program is designed for working professionals to increase their awareness of the multifunctional aspects of business and enhance their ability to integrate business knowledge in decision making.
The program offers concentrations that give professionals a competitive edge in some of the fastest growing areas in business. Students can choose to specialize in Business Analytics, Finance & Economics, or Organizations, Markets & Sustainability. Students may also opt for the Flex MBA option, that provides a choice of courses from all four concentrations.
The MBA program is open to students of all disciplines who have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited university or university. The degree can be completed as a full or part-time student, and may be taken fully online or a combination of online and in-person.
Five-Year B.S./MBA Degree Program
O'Malley School of Business undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the five-year B.S./MBA program, providing an opportunity for students to complete both an undergraduate business degree and MBA in five years. Two tracks are available – one specifically for accounting students and one for any business major at the University. Both tracks are described below.
Track 1 - B.S./MBA Professional Accounting
The B.S./MBA Professional Accounting Program offers accounting majors the option to complete a CPA licensure qualifying curriculum and is structured to meet the requirement in accordance with the regulations of the State of New York. Upon successful completion, the student will be awarded two degrees: a B.S. and an MBA, both in Professional Accounting. The program consists of a total of 153 hours in undergraduate and graduate credits, planned over a five-year period, including coursework during ten semesters and at least one summer session.
Track 2 – B.S./MBA Business
The B.S./MBA Business Program offers students from any undergraduate business major at Manhattan University the opportunity to complete an MBA degree in one year. Upon successful completion of this five-year program the student will be awarded two degrees: a B.S. in Business (in one of six majors) and an MBA with an optional concentration in one of three areas (Business Analytics, Finance & Economics, or Organizations, Markets & Sustainability). The program consists of a total of 150 hours in undergraduate and graduate credits, planned over a five-year period, including coursework during ten semesters and at least one summer session.
MBA Application Procedures
The MBA program is open to students of all disciplines who have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited university or university. Admission to the MBA program is done on a rolling basis.
Applicants whose undergraduate degree is not in a business-related discipline may need to take a number of prerequisite courses. These prerequisites can be satisfied by taking the online MBA Foundation Courses (or equivalent undergraduate courses).

Manhattan University Applicants:
Manhattan University students interested in the MBA program are encouraged to contact the MBA Program Director (Dr. Marc Waldman, marc.waldman@manhattan.edu, office 418 - De La Salle Hall) early in their senior year.
Seniors who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 are eligible for direct admission into the MBA Program. Recommendation requirements are waived.
External Applicants:
Applicants from outside Manhattan University must complete the web-based graduate application. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate courses, standardized test scores (if taken), resume and letter of recommendation should be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions.
Official transcripts (not student copies) of all academic records must be sent to the Office of Graduate Admissions by the institutions issuing them. Applicants who file an application before the baccalaureate degree has been conferred may be accepted pending the successful completion of their undergraduate work. A final transcript must be received in the Office of Graduate Admissions before they register for graduate courses.
Applicants will be assessed according to the following criteria:
1.GPA: Applicants should have a cumulative GPA of a least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
2.Resume: The resume should include examples of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular achievement which can be used to assess personal qualities and ability to complete the program.
3.Recommendations: Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s intellectual ability, leadership potential and ability to complete the program.
4.No GMAT/GRE Required: The O’Malley School of Business does not require standardized test scores for admission. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may strengthen their application by submitting a GMAT/GRE score.

Accounting - Graduate Courses
ACCG 601. Financial Accounting & Reporting I. 3 Credits.
This course is designed for graduate students who have completed an introductory financial accounting course during their undergraduate studies but have not yet completed financial accounting coursework at the intermediate level. The course focuses on preparing students for a career in professional accounting by obtaining a deeper understanding of the accounting cycle and the analysis of financial reports for business enterprises. Topics include accounting for transactions, events, and adjustments affecting assets, liabilities, shareholders’ equity, revenues, expenses, gains and losses, as well as principles of reporting and disclosure. Current and emerging special topics, as well as practical applications of accounting concepts, are incorporated throughout the semester.
ACCG 602. Accounting Information Systems. 3 Credits.
This course introduces students to fundamental understanding and practical application of accounting information systems (AIS). It introduces you to accounting software, flowcharts and data flow diagrams. It seeks to enhance students' knowledge of analysis, design, and implementation of an AIS, with a focus on transaction cycles and internal control. Students will also learn how to apply these concepts through a manual information system project, a computer information system project and projects using other software packages.
ACCG 603. Federal Income Taxation. 3 Credits.
This class discuss the basic federal income tax concepts regarding individual tax reporting and property transactions. Content includes federal income tax rates, filing status, definition of dependents, and concepts of trade or business and production of income activities. This course also covers important property transactions such as the definition of capital assets, non-recognition transactions, and the tax consequences of disposal of Sec. 1231 properties. Further, the class will briefly discuss tax preparer ethics and tax penalties.
ACCG 604. Financial Accounting & Reporting II. 3 Credits.
This course is an intensive study of financial accounting theory underlying the methodologies employed in gathering financial data used in preparing basic financial statements. The course focuses on specialized financial accounting topics related to business combinations and consolidated financial statements; partnership accounting; financial reporting by multinational corporations; International Accounting topics such as foreign exchange hedging, and reporting international operations on financial statements. Finally, we cover topic related with Financial Reporting and Securities & Exchange Commission. Pronouncements of the AICPA, FASB, and SEC are an integral part of the course. Research using the FASB Codification data base is also an integral part of the course. Prerequisite: ACCT 601 or ACCG 601.
ACCG 605. Auditing & Assurance Services. 3 Credits.
This course is designed to help students obtain an in-depth understanding of the auditing and assurance market. This market involves issuance of reports by independent accountants on the fair presentation of information used to make business decisions. The first part of this course provides an overview of the auditing profession. Considerable attention is given to accountants’ professional responsibility, professional standards including GAAS, PCAOB auditing standards, and quality control standards and ethics and independence issues including AICPA code of professional conduct. The second part deals with the fundamental concepts and principles of the audit process, while the third part examines the practical application of auditing concepts to specific audit areas. Special attention will be given to the sales and collection cycle, acquisition and payment cycle, and the inventory and warehousing cycles. Prerequisite: ACCT 601 or ACCG 601.
ACCG 607. Tax for Business Entities. 3 Credits.
This class discusses the basic federal income tax of C corporations, partnerships, and S corporations. The class starts by discussing the tax accounting such as the cash/accrual method, selection of a tax year, and reporting requirements. The class then addresses Sec. 351 and C corp. distributions. In addition, the class discusses important partnership transactions such as investment in partnerships/S corporations, determination of a partner’s share of distributive income, and a partner’s/S corp. shareholder’s basis in a partnership/S corporation shares. Prerequisite: ACCT 603 or ACCG 603.
ACCG 608. Accounting Theory & Research. 3 Credits.
This course is a seminar in accounting theory, research, and current topics in accounting. The topics covered include the information, measurement, and efficient contracting approaches to decision usefulness, the standard setting process, the joint IASB/FASB conceptual framework, new and proposed accounting standards, and professional responsibility. This course will also familiarize students to different research methodologies, with an emphasis on practical research. Case studies will be utilized extensively to enhance students’ critical thinking, research and communication skills. Prerequisite: ACCT 302.
ACCG 609. Information Technology Assurance & Audit. 3 Credits.
This course covers the evaluation of an information system; concepts of system and design; techniques of analyzing and flow charting various systems; use of computer audit package programs; and the study of organizational, security, input, output, processing, and documentation controls. Spring. Prerequisites: ACCT 301, ACCT 302, ACCT 401.
ACCG 610. Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting. 3 Credits.
This course examines accounting principles and reporting models unique to governmental and nonprofit entities for financial statement preparation and analysis. After learning the basic accounting models, students will analyze recent financial statements of governmental and not-for-profit entities. The course covers topics tested on the Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR) Discipline Examination of the Uniform CPA Examination.
ACCG 611. Tax Research. 3 Credits.
The course covers the following topics: discussions of various primary tax authorities; review of important court decisions in income, deductions, property transactions, and accounting methods; and discussions of Circular 230 and the rules related to tax preparer privileges. The class will also include discussions of gift and estate basic rules and tax accounting. Prerequisite: ACCT 410.
ACCG 612. Forensic Accounting, Fraud Examination & Ethics. 3 Credits.
This course provides graduate students the opportunity to learn and gain practical experience in forensic accounting, fraud examination, and accounting ethics. Corporate fraud involves dishonest illegal or unethical actions committed either by a company or its employees. Fraud schemes are intentionally concealed and often highly complex—a given case can take a team of forensic accountants many months or even years to unravel. Thinking critically and analytically is therefore essential to forensic accounting, fraud examination, and accounting ethics. Topics covered include fraud schemes, financial crimes, the regulatory environment, ethics, professional skepticism, the psychology of fraud, evidence-based examinations, digital evidence, fraud detection, and anti-fraud compliance. Prerequisite: Introductory Financial Accounting.
Business Analytics-Graduate Courses
BUAG 510. Found Stats with R for BUAN. 3 Credits.
This advanced course equips graduate students with cutting-edge statistical methods and predictive modeling techniques used in modern business environments. Emphasis will be placed on advanced regression techniques, time series forecasting, ANOVA, experimental design, and multivariate analysis. Students will apply these techniques using R, with a strong focus on real-world business applications and data-driven decision-making. Graduate-level rigor will require additional programming exercises, research, and complex data analysis projects.
BUAG 605. Programming for Bus.Analytics. 3 Credits.
Accelerated introduction to computer programming and the software tools used for data analysis and processing. Topics include Python programming, source code control, and command-line tools for data transformation and searching. The first week of the course will feature a quick review of spreadsheets with a focus on data validation and aggregate functions. Python programming related topics include basic programming constructs, data formats (csv, json), data acquisition (web scraping, web APIs) and libraries for data manipulation/analysis/visualization.
BUAG 606. Privacy & Data Protection. 3 Credits.
This course examines foundational privacy concepts and provides an overview of the legal and regulatory frameworks for current privacy laws. It explores sector-specific legislation in the U.S. and examines the differing legal requirements for handling and transferring data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The course examines appropriate data governance practices and discusses how organizations devise privacy and data protection strategies. The course will use real-life case studies to examine the sufficiency of data protection measures used by organizations and will explore the potential liability and reporting requirements following a data breach. Students will learn consistent methods for applying privacy principles to emerging technologies in the areas of biometric data and artificial intelligence.

In this course, students learn how to make sense out of data (Gather, Ingest, Store, Analyze, visualize train-models and Mine) for the purpose of decision support.
Topics covered: Data Gathering, Repurposing Data, Descriptive Analytics, Outlier(s) Detection, Similarity Measures and Cluster Analysis, Classification & Prediction (Entropy, SVM, Naïve Bayes), Association Rules, Regression Analysis, Time Series Forecasting, Social Media Analytics and Text Mining.

BUAG 611. Adv.Stats & Predictive Model. 3 Credits.
This course focuses on advanced statistical modeling techniques and their applications in business analytics. The curriculum emphasizes time series analysis, experimental design, advanced regression methods, and multivariate analysis. Students will use R and Python for real-world business problem-solving, with an emphasis on predictive modeling and the automation of data processes. The course concludes with a capstone project, providing hands-on experience with business case analysis and advanced forecasting techniques.

BUAG 617. Decision Modeling for Business Analytics. 3 Credits.
Data analytics have transformed how business executives make strategic decisions. Decision-makers now rely heavily on sophisticated quantitative analysis using the user-friendly environment of spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel. This course introduces students to quantitative modeling for strategic decision-making across various business areas, including finance, marketing, and operations. Topics include decision-making under uncertainty, revenue management, simulation, and mathematical programming. While Excel will be used, the course focuses on understanding, structuring, and solving business problems and interpreting and communicating the solutions effectively in a realistic business context.
BUAG 620. Data Management for Business Analytics. 3 Credits.
This is a Data Engineering Course. It covers the fundamentals of sound database design, storing, manipulating and retrieving data, Conceptual Data Modeling, SQL, Functional Dependencies and Data Normalization, transaction management, transferring data between Excel and csv and SQL-engines. JSON formats as well as NoSQL Concepts.
BUAG 627. Advanced Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Business Analytics. 3 Credits.
This advanced graduate course provides a rigorous and in-depth exploration of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) frameworks for solving complex business problems. Building on foundational knowledge, students will engage with advanced ML algorithms such as neural networks, k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), logistic regression, and Support Vector Machines (SVM), as well as state-of-the-art deep learning architectures like Convolutional and Recurrent Neural Networks (CNNs and RNNs). The course emphasizes ensemble methods, optimization techniques for large-scale data, and ethical considerations in AI, including bias and interpretability. Graduate students will be required to design and implement innovative, data-driven solutions to complex, real-world business challenges, enhancing both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in AI/ML technologies.

BUAG 630. Social Media Analytics. 3 Credits.
This course links a sociological understanding of social network theory and analysis with the technical skills necessary to map and analyze these social media networks through data generated by social media. The course will emphasize social network theories and concepts as it applies to social media in support of team project development and executing using the technical skills learned over the course of the semester. The course utilizes modern computing tools and network-graphs theory to analyze social networks, their organization and communication.

BUAG 636. Supply Chain Analytics. 3 Credits.
This course covers key topics such as demand forecasting, inventory management, logistics optimization, and the use of big data in the supply chain environment. Students will learn to apply statistical methods and predictive models to real-world supply chain problems, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. Through case studies and hands-on projects, the course also emphasizes the importance of sustainability and ethical considerations in supply chain decisions, preparing students to become leaders in enhancing supply chain operations within diverse industries.
BUAG 646. Project Management for Business Analytics. 3 Credits.
This course covers the application and integration of the project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) areas to managing projects. It focuses on project management tools and techniques for defining and managing the project’s goal, scope, schedule, and budget. Other topics include project selection, project management skills, organizational structures, and risk management.
Projects are used in most industries and types of organizations to achieve unique outcomes given limited time and budget. The ability to select, initiate, plan and execute projects successfully is critical to any organization’s ability to achieve its goals. Managers are often exposed to projects in different roles including but not limited to sponsors, customers, users/recipients of benefits, project managers, program managers, resource managers, product managers, and funding approvers. The ability to understand how projects are managed is an important skill for managers to succeed in their jobs. This course provides students with this knowledge and gives them the foundation to be able to start a career as project managers. At the end of this course, students should be able to create a project plan and execute it to achieve pre-defined business objectives.
BUAG 660. Introduction to Blockchains, Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts. 3 Credits.
This course provides an in-depth overview of blockchains, cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, as well as their uses, advantages, and limitations. Blockchain is a distributed, immutable ledger technology that is utilized to implement cryptocurrencies, smart contracts and other applications where public or semi-private visibility and verifiability are required. In addition to Blockchain architecture and use, the course will also cover the necessary computing and cryptographic background needed to understand and utilize Bitcoin and smart contracts. For both technical and business professionals, it is essential to understand these technologies, as well as their associated security issues.

BUAG 667. Generative AI and Deep Learning for Business Analytics. 3 Credits.
This graduate-level course focuses on the theory, implementation, and business applications of generative AI and deep learning. Topics include deep learning architectures, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), along with the business uses of models like GPT and BERT. The course emphasizes real-world applications, including image recognition, natural language processing (NLP), and predictive modeling. Students will also explore ethical concerns surrounding AI models, including bias and transparency, and will implement projects using Python and TensorFlow.

BUAG 699. Business Analytics Capstone. 3 Credits.
This course provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills, acquired throughout the Business Analytics program, to a comprehensive, real-world project. Working individually or in teams, students will partner with industry clients or work on faculty-suggested projects to address meaningful business problems using data analytics. Emphasis is placed on project planning, data sourcing and wrangling, analysis, and the presentation of actionable insights. Students will produce a final written report and deliver an executive-level presentation. Projects may involve predictive modeling, optimization, machine learning, business intelligence, and data visualization.

Digital Marketing/Analytics-Graduate Courses
DMAN 605. Advanced Marketing Analytics. 3 Credits.
This course focuses on advanced data-driven decision-making in marketing. Students will explore predictive modeling, customer segmentation, A/B testing, causal inference, and AI applications in marketing analytics. Real-world datasets and tools such as Python, R, and Tableau will be used to develop actionable insights and data-driven strategies.
DMAN 606. Advanced Consumer Behavior. 3 Credits.
This course is designed to introduce you to the study of consumer behavior. Drawing on concepts and theories from behavioral sciences such as psychology, sociology, and anthropology, we will explore how these insights can inform the development of effective marketing strategies.
DMAN 611. AI & Digital Media Marketing. 3 Credits.
This comprehensive course is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of digital media marketing. It covers AI integration, social media marketing, app marketing, and content creation, equipping students with the skills needed to excel in the digital marketing landscape.
DMAN 612. Independent Research Project. 1 Credit.
In this capstone course, students will conduct an independent research project on a contemporary digital marketing topic of their choice, to be approved by the course instructor. The capstone is designed to synthesize the breadth of knowledge gained in MS Digital Marketing & Analytics courses, through an application of modern techniques and tools to analyze digital marketing strategy and/or consumer behavior. Students will develop a relevant research question, perform a thorough literature review, design appropriate data collection instruments, perform the data collection and analysis, identify real-world strategic marketing implications and ethical viewpoint of the research based on their data analysis, make appropriate strategic recommendations, and integrate their work into a detailed marketing research report.
This capstone ensures that graduates of the MS Digital Marketing & Analytics program have both theoretical knowledge, hands-on experience, and relevant real world implementation skills to successfully build a career in the field of marketing.
Financial Analytics-Graduate Courses
FNAN 600. Corporate Finance. 3 Credits.
This course builds on the foundational principles of corporate finance, delving into more advanced topics that are essential for understanding the financial decision-making processes within a corporation. Students will explore concepts such as capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, and working capital management. The course also covers the analysis of financial statements, valuation techniques, and the role of financial markets in corporate strategy.
FNAN 602. Investment Analysis. 3 Credits.
This course focuses on portfolio analysis, construction, and equity valuation using
modern financial techniques. Students will explore risk-return trade-offs, apply valuation models, and assess portfolio performance. The course emphasizes the use of financial analytics to construct optimized portfolios and perform company analysis.

FNAN 604. Econometrics: Theory & Applications. 3 Credits.
This course offers an introduction to econometric techniques that are essential for conducting empirical analysis. It aims to equip students with the ability to master key concepts and independently and critically complete empirical projects.
FNAN 617. Options and Futures. 3 Credits.
This graduate-level course offers an in-depth study of options, exploring their structure, pricing, and strategic applications in financial markets. The course focuses on key concepts such as option valuation models, volatility, the Greeks, and using options for hedging and speculative purposes. Through theoretical frameworks and real case studies from Bloomberg Terminals, students will gain practical insights into the dynamic role of options in risk management and portfolio optimization.

FNAN 625. ML in Investment. 3 Credits.
This course delves into the use of machine learning techniques in the field of investment management. Students will explore how machine learning models can be applied to financial data to enhance investment strategies, optimize portfolios, and manage risks. The course will cover supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, with a focus on their practical applications in asset pricing, algorithmic trading, and risk management. Hands-on projects will allow students to apply machine learning techniques to real-world financial datasets.

FNAN 629. Behavioral Finance. 3 Credits.
Behavioral Finance examines the ways in which human behavior influences financial decisions, markets, and the broader economy. The course explores how cognitive biases, emotions, and social factors lead to deviations from the predictions of traditional financial theories. Through case studies, discussions, and critical analysis, students will learn how to apply behavioral finance concepts to better understand market dynamics and improve investment decision-making.

FNAN 630. Applied Artificial Intelligence in Finance. 3 Credits.
This course introduces students to the practical use of artificial intelligence tools in modern financial decision-making, with an emphasis on application rather than heavy programming. Students learn how AI can be used to analyze financial statements, evaluate firm performance, construct and rebalance investment portfolios, and identify, measure, and manage financial risks using intuitive, no-code or low-code platforms.
FNAN 650. Real Estate Finance. 3 Credits.
This course explores the valuation and pricing of real estate securities, focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of real estate capital markets to enable students to make informed investment decisions in a dynamic and complex environment. The course covers a range of topics, such as residential and commercial securities, mortgage prepayment and credit risk, debt securities, and regulations. The primary goal is to familiarize students with the structured finance market and the diverse array of assets that are actively securitized. The course will provide an understanding of: The foundational elements of CMBS (Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities) and RMBS (Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities) structures, including credit enhancement and payment priority, as well as the approach of rating agencies to assess securitizations.

FNAN 651. Capstone Project. 1 Credit.
The capstone project is a mandatory component of the MS in Financial Analytics program, designed to serve as an integrative, comprehensive, and practical application of the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the curriculum. The capstone offers students an opportunity to deeply engage with real-world financial analytics challenges, demonstrating their ability to independently develop, implement, and communicate sophisticated financial analytics solutions. Under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors, students will enhance their proficiency in research methodologies, advanced analytical techniques, data-driven decision-making processes, and professional communication and presentation skills. Application of Statistical and Econometric Techniques to Financial Data Analysis: Students will learn to apply various statistical and econometric methods to analyze financial data, focusing on three key areas: Linear Regression Models: Understanding the determinants of stock returns and evaluating their risk using linear regression techniques, Time Series Models: Utilizing historical data to predict future values, such as forecasting a company’s quarterly revenue, Volatility Models: Applying time series methods to forecast the variance or standard deviation of financial variables, with practical applications in financial risk management.

FNAN 670. Advanced Fixed Income Analysis. 3 Credits.
This graduate-level course offers a comprehensive exploration of fixed income securities, focusing on their significance in financial markets. The course delves into advanced topics such as risk-return dynamics, sophisticated valuation techniques, credit analysis, and the term structure of interest rates. It is tailored to equip students with the skills necessary for high-level analysis and decision-making in finance, with particular relevance for those preparing for the fixed income segment of the CFA® Level II Exam.

MBAF 510. Foundations of Business Statistics. 3 Credits.
The objective of this course is to familiarize students with statistical data analysis methods and the corresponding computing tools and techniques. The topics of the course are exploratory data analysis, discrete and continuous probability distributions for the purpose of statistical data analysis, interval estimation of population means and proportions, hypothesis testing of population means and proportions and one-way analysis of variance of population means, linear regression modeling, analysis and prediction and time-series forecasting.
This course is designed to meet a prerequisite of the MBA program. The course is open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in a field other than business. Permission of MBA program director is required.
MBAF 520. Foundations of Financial and Managerial Accounting. 3 Credits.
The course introduces fundamental principles of accounting and demonstrates their use in financial and managerial reporting for business organizations. It emphasizes the four financial statements produced by the accounting information system and the concepts governing their preparation. It covers the relevant components of the annual report providing additional information to investors. It emphasizes the analysis of financial statement ratios. Managerial accounting topics include costing methods, cost-volume-profit analysis, budgetary planning and control, and standard costs. The course introduces ethical issues in accounting for analysis and discussion.
This course is designed to meet a prerequisite of the MBA program. The course is open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in a field other than business. Permission of MBA program director is required.
MBAF 530. Foundations of Economics. 3 Credits.
This course provides an introductory study of both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics studies the behavior of individual households and firms in the marketplace, with topics including supply and demand, economic efficiency and welfare, the role of the government, and international trade. Macroeconomics covers the economy as a whole and is largely concerned with the level of output and prices in an economy. Topics include inflation and unemployment, money and banks, the role of the federal budget, monetary policy, and economic growth.
This course is designed to meet a prerequisite of the MBA program. The course is open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in a field other than business. Permission of MBA program directory is required.
MBAF 540. Foundations of Organizational and Operational Management. 3 Credits.
In this course, principles of management are introduced and how they are applied in organizations so that they may operate more effectively and/or efficiently. It is split into two parts beginning with broad concepts before moving on to more specific and quantitative topics. The course begins with classical theories on management, ethical behavior, innovation, teamwork, business strategy, and international business before moving on to the 2nd half of the course that will focus more on optimization. In this second part, decision-making will be based on calculations towards maximizing profit and/or minimizing cost. Topics include outsourcing, forecasting, statistical quality control, project management, queuing, linear programming, and inventory control.

Masters Business Administration Courses
MBA 601. Internship. 3 Credits.
Students will receive guidance in securing an appropriate internship and must obtain faculty sponsorship. Faculty supervisors will define appropriate academic activities in parallel to the work requirement in order to provide a complete internship experience.
MBA 602. Research. 3 Credits.
Faculty supervisors will direct complete research activities. These activities may focus on specific industries and can build on students' internship experiences.
MBA 603. Entrepreneurship. 3 Credits.
This course will encompass the creation and planning of a new business, which helps the economy by creating new jobs, which becomes jobs of the future. Included within this focus would be analysis of both for-profit and non-profit organizations (i.e. foundations, charitable organizations, community organizations and hybrid firms which employ social entrepreneurship) Topics of social and corporate responsibility feed into the increased awareness of sustainability. Subsumed within this course are the core management functions tailored to small business. Included topics discussed from an interdisciplinary point of view are: MGMT, MKTG,FIN, ACCT, Leadership and Human Resources, Operations, Strategic Planning, Organization and Control.
MBA 604. Business Plan Project A and B. 1,2 Credit.
Business Plan A is structured to give the students the opportunity to create a research plan for the company project. All avenues of research - both primary and secondary must be considered for the research plan. Once the project has been delivered - research plan will be put into process.
Business Plan B is structured to have the students provide a deliverable to an outside business client and follows the work done in Business Plan A. The deliverable may include a feasibility study, segmentation analysis, target market analysis, preferred product attributes, product packaging and a business plan.
MBA 606. Doing Business:Study Trip. 3 Credits.
This is a unique course in which students spend 9-12 days abroad. The destination changes semester to semester. The objective of the course is to understand the designated Country’s unique place in the global economy and how businesses operate within that Country. The structure of the course is arranged around three main elements: onsite visits to local businesses to understand the way in which businesses operate; learning sessions in which local businessmen, politicians, intellectuals, and social activists discuss contemporary issues and problems relating to their economy and business environment. The experience also includes some tourism to explore the rich history and culture of each Country. Upon return from the Country, students complete a firm based project or consulting work. Such an experience is of critical importance to a well-rounded MBA graduate.
MBA 607. Business Plan Project. 3 Credits.
Individual students or student-teams of 2 to 3 members will be paired with an entrepreneur or small business owner for the term. Each owner will have a pressing business problem or issue that needs to be addressed. The student/team will work with the owner and provide a deliverable that addresses the problem or issue. The deliverable may include a feasibility study, segmentation analysis, target market analysis, preferred product attributes, product packaging and a business plan.
Note: This course is the one term equivalent of courses MBAE604A/B.
Students who have taken either MBAE604A or B are not eligible to take MBAE607.
MBA 610. Business Data Management. 3 Credits.
This course introduces the core concepts of data and information management. It is centered around the core skills of identifying organizational information requirements, modeling them using conceptual data modeling techniques, converting the conceptual data models into relational data models, and implementing the models using a commercial relational database management system. Additional topics include database administration, security, transaction management, distributed databases and SQL programming. Cross-listed with CIS 310.
MBA 611. Advanced Data Analysis. 3 Credits.
Decision makers require rigorous support from extensive data analysis. This course provides you with several tools to prepare, analyze, and present the results of data analysis. These tools cover topics in data design and visualization, exploratory data mining and basic machine learning, probability, sampling and statistical inference, traditional and robust regression, Monte Carlo simulation and bootstrapping, and decision optimization. Tools will be built in Excel and R, an open source programming language in wide use. They will be applied across an organization's value chain to problems of inventory, market share, pricing, budgeting and forecasting, and risk management, among other topics. Prerequisite: MBAF 510 or equivalent.
MBA 615. Computing in R. 3 Credits.
Introduces MBA students to the R programming language and the related eco-system. R is an invaluable tool for data analysis and reporting, for basic and advanced statistical inference and it has with a variety of business applications including finance, economics and marketing. This course will provide a skill-set that is in increasingly in demand in the business world.
MBA 616. Stock Market & Corporate Valuation. 3 Credits.
Financial markets have existed since ancient civilization. The Aztecs held worth in the Cacao bean, the ancient Egyptians in metal, and the ancient Chinese in silk. Markets were necessary so that people could trade their assets for others that were needed or desired. With an increasing complexity, financial markets continue to exert a powerful presence in our lives and are central to the functioning of our economy. What shape do assets take in the modern economy? What role do financial markets play and how do they function? How are assets such as stocks and bonds priced in these markets? This course introduces the main financial principles necessary to understand the role of financial markets today.
MBA 617. Decision Modeling with Spreadsheets. 3 Credits.
Spreadsheet packages have changed the way business executives make strategic decisions. Decision makers increasingly rely on sophisticated quantitative analysis through the intuitive and comfortable environment offered by computerized spreadsheet packages. This course is designed to introduce MBA students to quantitative modeling for strategic decision-making using the popular spreadsheet package, Microsoft Excel. The course covers applications for various business areas including finance, marketing, and operations. Applications include break even analysis, cash flow analysis, pricing models, revenue management, project management, portfolio analysis, supply chain management, and channel selection. Though the course covers the use of a spreadsheet package, the focus is not on the technicalities of the software. The course focuses on the process of understanding, structuring, and solving business issues as well as interpretations of solutions.
MBA 618. Financial Management. 3 Credits.
This course focuses on the role of the financial manager as decision maker. The first half of the course, therefore, deals with the tools of the trade: It defines the financial environment and its diagnostics system, the analysis of financial statements. It then studies the interest rates and time value of money in connection with the characteristics of discounted cash flow method of asset valuation. The second half of the course involves in dynamic financial management: building a discussion of the relationship between risk and return will be followed by the bonds and stocks as financial assets and their valuation. Finally, the capital budgeting and basic long-term financing including the impact of financial leverage on firm value will be covered.
MBA 621. Readings and Cases in Financial Reporting. 3 Credits.
The purpose of this course is to explore case studies in financial accounting. The case studies will present a variety of scenarios including issues of fraud and corruption in the post Enron era. Students will be fully involved in the understanding of the legislation and the roles of regulatory bodies both in the US and in foreign countries. The course will provide a mixture of theory and practice and will introduce students to analytical problem solving using the case method.
MBA 622. Leadership & Organizational Behavior. 3 Credits.
This course uses a behavioral science approach to help students gain an understanding of leadership and its impact on the organizational behavior of individuals. Students will examine leadership theories, learn about current research findings, investigate examples of leadership in practice, and engage in developmental activities to evaluate and enhance their leadership skills.
MBA 624. Going Global:Business & Society. 3 Credits.
In a globally integrated economy, it is imperative that we investigate and understand multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional perspectives to global business issues. In this course, we examine how doing business globally has become incredibly viable and challenging at the same time. We explore economic, social, cultural and technological issues in the context of a diverse global environment. For example, we investigate Facebook in emerging economics (i.e: the push back on free internet for all), Netflix in Kenya (i.e: streaming entertainment without local censorship), Apple (i.e: personal security versus national security), Uber (i.e.: the shared economy and employee rights) and more.
MBA 625. Creativity for Entrepreneurs. 3 Credits.
This course provides students with deep insight into which factors and techniques foster creativity and which ones inhibit it, in both individuals and groups. Many techniques, including lectures, classroom exercises and workshops, case studies, team projects, readings and guest lectures, will be used. Students have ample opportunities in the course to practice their creative thinking skills in many different domains and in different design challenges. (3 CREDITS).
MBA 626. Environmental Economics & Policy. 3 Credits.
An introductory study of the way economists model environmental problems. The course starts with an overview of externalities, public goods, and common-pool resources, encompassing situations in which the market fails to maximize total welfare for society. The course explores the economics of environmental quality focusing on marginal damages and marginal abatement costs of pollutants. Subsequently, it covers cost-benefit analysis, an important framework used by environmental economists to assess environmental policies. To estimate benefits, different valuation methods including revealed and stated preference methods, will be examined. The course concludes studying various environmental policy instruments used to internalize environmental externalities, including standards, emission charges, Pigouvian taxes, subsidies, and cap-and-trade. (Prerequisites: MBAF 530 and MBAF 510 or equivalent undergraduate courses).
MBA 630. Accounting for Business Decision Making. 3 Credits.
This course covers essential financial and managerial accounting concepts and places emphasis on the critical and analytical thinking skills needed for making business-related decisions. Students learn to measure, process and communicate accounting and managerial information about an economic entity so that they can hold intelligent discussions with all relevant stakeholders. Some of the topics covered include financial statements and analysis, internal control and why it is important, performance evaluation, business income tax concepts and tax planning strategies, mergers and acquisitions and the related accounting process.
MBA 631. Innovation Management. 3 Credits.
This course will examine the path of creation of new products, new ideas and new management styles. The course will include examination of styles of organization for team development and creativity, development of creative human resource practices and learning conflict management practices to encourage team building and interpersonal cooperation.
MBA 635. Managerial Economics. 3 Credits.
Managerial Economics introduces the students to the application of economic principles to key management decisions within organizations. MBAC 635 consists of three parts. Part I examines the theory of demand and the relevant estimation and forecasting techniques. Part II introduces the economic theories of production and cost in the short and long run. Finally, part III combines all the elements of demand, production, and cost as we examine the notion of profit maximization and pricing strategy in case of perfectly and non-perfectly competitive markets. This course teaches future managers how to apply theories and techniques to solve real-world problems and how to think analytically to make better decisions. Thus, this course provides future managers with the conceptual and quantitative tools for analyzing problems and developing strategies at their business. Prerequisite: MBAF 530 or equivalent.
MBA 636. Supply Chain Analysis. 3 Credits.
Supply chains are an integral part of contemporary business practices. This course will examine key issues related to the design and management of supply chains. It will include discussion on the integration of various parts of the supply chain, including suppliers, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, warehouses and retailers. Theories related to the efficient distribution of products to customers will be presented. Also, management techniques addressing tradeoffs between cost and services will be discussed. The use of information systems in supply chain management will be introduced. Much of the course concepts will be covered through real-word case studies using quantitative and qualitative analysis. Prerequisite: MBAF 540 or equivalent.
MBA 637. Marketing Strategy & the Consumer Experience. 3 Credits.
The objective of this course is to facilitate students' understanding of basic concepts and to enhance their appreciation for the importance of marketing strategies. The course focuses on the impact of marketing strategy and research on the operations of organizations, and on the behavior of consumers. The topics engage students in experiential activities designed to demonstrate the implementation of marketing theories. Topics include marketing processes and research; international and global marketing; strategic planning and budgeting; economic, cultural and legal aspects of marketing; and topical developments in marketing. Permission of MBA Program Director is required to register for this course.
MBA 638. Markets, States & Policies in the Global Economy. 3 Credits.
This course focuses on the study of large-scale economic interactions among interdependent economies. It provides a deep exploration of the interconnections among nations which is essential to understanding how the global economy works. Those interconnections are analyzed by focusing on key economy-wide variables, such as exchange rates, prices, interest rates, income, wealth, and the current account.
The broad range of topics and issues in international macroeconomics can be reduced to three key elements: the many monies present in the world, the financial integration of countries, and the choice and implementation of economic policies. Accordingly, the course is divided into three major parts or study modules: exchange rates, the balance of payments, and application and policy issues.
Course Prerequisites: ECON 203 and ECON 204, or MBA Foundation of Economics (MBAF 530).
MBA 639. Corporate Finance. 3 Credits.
This course is designed to cover the essential tools and concepts of advanced corporate finance and expand the students' understanding of how organizations make investment and financing decisions. It is in line with CFA Level II topics, including capital budgeting, cost of capital, measures of leverage, dividend, share repurchases, and mergers and acquisitions. The course pays special attention to the application of theoretical corporate finance materials to the real world and prepares students for today’s modern corporations with rapid and sustainable growth goals.
Prerequisite: MBA 618.
MBA 640. Decision Making for Sustainability. 3 Credits.
This course is designed to introduce you to decision making theories and approaches that influence sustainability at individual, organizational, and societal levels. Using a systems perspective, the course addresses the fundamental question of how organizations, markets, communities, and industries can change the way they operate by integrating environmental and social concerns.
MBA 641. Real Estate Capstone. 3 Credits.
This course offers the student the opportunity to analyze an actual real estate sustainability challenge faced by a corporation. Student teams will review an exist1ng facility, either on or off-campus, and by utilizing actual energy, water, and real estate data, develop sustainable solutions.
Students' recommendations will be used to eventually achieve the LEED O&M certification for the facility under review. The proposed solution must be presented in the form of 1. A detailed, written report; 2. A slide presentation summarizing the solution; and 3. A financial proforma which details the costs and the energy savings derived from the recommended solution.
Prerequisite: MBA 640.
MBA 642. International Marketing Field Project. 3 Credits.
A team of MBA students will work on specified research tasks commissioned by a business client under the direct supervision of a faculty advisor to produce professional quality research reports which will assist the client firm in conducting international marketing and business. Students will gain field-based substantive knowledge and valuable professional skills necessary for conducting business in the international market place.
MBA 644. Employment Law. 3 Credits.
This course will examine the statutory foundations of employment law in the United States and address a variety of legal issues related to the workplace. Consideration will be given to the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees throughout the employment relationship. Topics to be discussed will include principal-agent liability, the doctrine of employment at will, employee privacy, and the history and development of labor unions. Other employment issues will include employment discrimination, workers’ compensation, occupational safety and health and the hiring and termination process. The enforceability of confidentiality, non-competition and other restrictive covenants in employment agreements will be addressed.
Also courses not used to fulfill experiential or core requirements may be used as electives.

Advanced and special topics in business. Topics may vary from semester to semester. Information about the course will be available prior to registration.

MBA 646. Project Management. 3 Credits.
Application and integration of the project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) areas to managing projects. Focuses on project management tools and techniques for defining and managing the projects goal, scope, schedule, and budget. Other topics include quality management, risk management, knowledge management and managing high tech projects.
MBA 647. International Management Field Project. 3 Credits.
A team of MBA students will work on specified research tasks commissioned by a client under the direct supervision of a faculty advisor to produce professional quality research reports which will assist the client to achieve its goals in an international setting. Students will gain field-based substantive knowledge and valuable experiential professional skills necessary for being successful in a global setting.
MBA 650. Real Estate Development. 3 Credits.
In this course students learn about all aspects of real estate development, including project conception, design, planning and zoning, financial feasibility, approval, construction, and operations and management. Students will also learn about the key participants on the development team, including the developer, architect, contractor and manager, and understand the concepts, principles, and analytical methods and tools used in making investment decisions regarding residential and commercial real estate, including the evaluation of ownership structures, exit decisions, and financing alternatives.
MBA 651. Cross-Cultural Organizational Behavior. 3 Credits.
In this core course, you will be introduced to concepts, models and frameworks to help you develop critical skills that will improve your ability to be a valuable organizational member and future leader in diverse and global work settings. To do so we will examine common organizational behavior topics like communication, trust, negotiation, emotions, motivation, team dynamics, leadership and change through a cross cultural lens and explore barriers and opportunities to cultivate synergy in cross-cultural teams and global organizations.
Additionally, to enable your application of class materials and hone your cultural competency skills each student will be assigned to a multicultural team working with 3-4 international MBA students from Business schools world-wide to complete a cross cultural team project.
MBA 652. Human Resource Management: Functions, Systems & Analytics. 3 Credits.
This course will provide an overview of the role and function of human resources (HR) in organizations and how HR must leverage the use of supportive technology and data to accomplish strategic initiatives. The course focuses on understanding the role of systems in support of specific HR functions and processes such as recruiting, performance management, benefits administration and government compliance. Additionally, the use of employee data and analytics to support effective HR policies will be explored. These issues will be examined in the context of the overall objective of HR management: Helping an organization achieve and maintain success, profitability and viability.
MBA 710. Professional Ethics. 3 Credits.
This is an advanced business ethics course that uses readings and case studies to explore issues in the management of ethics in organizations and in the professions. The course requires students to examine the recurring ethical issues in the world of business, in the professions and in society as a whole. Emphasis is placed on students gaining a practical understanding of ethical theories and the application of these theories in ethical decision-making. A primary focus of the course is challenging students to analyze and resolve the kinds of moral problems and ethical dilemmas they may face in their own business, professional, or personal lives.
MBA 720. Advanced Strategic Management. 3 Credits.
Students will tackle problems related to the development or maintenance of the competitive advantage of the firm. Readings and cases by leading researchers and practitioners in the field are used to provide real context in developing the tools and skills required for strategic analysis. Students will also examine processes, models and theories for strategic planning.
