Double Dipping Policy
The Double Dipping policy is designed to promote access to students who want to pursue two majors during their time at Manhattan University. A policy should be transparent to the entire Manhattan University community and provide consistency across disciplines. This policy only pertains to double majors for undergraduate degrees. It is not intended to provide guidance for graduate degrees or dual majors. Dual degrees are governed by specific NYSED requirements.
Considerations
-
Two BS majors or two BA majors can be combined. If a student wants to pair a BS and a BA major, a further conversation should be had with the relevant Dean’s Office(s) and Centralized Advising.
-
Maximum number of credits that can be shared between two majors:
-
If one (or both) of the two majors is less than 33 credits, two courses (up to eight credits) can be shared;
-
If one of the two majors is between 34 - 48 credits, three courses (up to 12 credits) can be shared;
-
If one of the two majors is greater than 49 credits, four courses (up to 16 credits) can be shared.
-
If a core, general education, and/or cognate course also counts towards the major requirements of one program of study, it is not calculated in the above formula. If the same core, general education, and/or cognate course counts towards the major requirements of two separate programs or study, it is calculated in the above formula.
-
Senior Seminar and Capstone projects should be independent of each other. An exception to this is if there is significant crossover of these culminating courses between the two disciplines, and it is justifiable to share one course between the two majors. Approval should be received from department Chairs of both majors and will be considered in the above calculation.
